After you read each book from the 26-27 SSYRA Jr. list, choose an activity to share what you know about the story! Please complete these projects independently at home show your understanding of the text!

Kindergarten & 1st Grade: You may choose any activity from any of the categories.
2nd Grade: Choose activities from all 4 of the categories, at least 5 of your choices should include a writing component.

CREATE
NEW BOOK COVER :Draw and color a new cover for the book. Include the title, author, and a picture that shows something important from the story.
CHARACTER TRADING CARD: Draw a picture of a character on the front of a trading card and write and draw three things about them on the back.
MINI POSTER: Make a poster with the title, author, and a picture of the most exciting part of the story. Add two to three sentences to tell why it's important.
 
WRITE
FAVORITE PART:  Write (or dictate to a helper) a few sentences about your favorite part of the story. Add a picture to show it!
LETTER TO A CHARACTER:  Write a short letter to one character. Tell them what you liked about them or ask them some questions.
CHARACTER LIST:  Write the names of the main characters and one describing word for each (e.g., “Brave,” “Funny,” “Kind”). Add a drawing of your favorite character.
 
PERFORM
SCENE SCRIPT & DRAWING: Write (or dictate) a few lines of a favorite scene and draw a picture of it.
BOOK TALK RECORDING SHEET: Complete a simple “Book Talk” page where you draw the cover, list the characters, and write/draw why other kids should read it.
PUPPET & SCRIPT:  Make a simple paper-bag or stick puppet of a character. Write (or dictate) 2–3 lines the puppet might say in the story. Turn in the puppet and script.
 
SHARE
STORY MAP:  Draw a beginning, middle, and end chart. Add pictures (and words if you can) to show what happened.
TIMELINE:  Put the main events of the story in order using pictures and labels.
BOOK REVIEW CARD: On an index card or half-sheet, write the book title, draw a picture, and give it a star rating (1–5 stars). Write one reason why others should read it.
