Hello Bexley Bulldog Families,
This is Michele Boylan, your child’s principal with this week’s Bexley Elementary School update!
First, we want to thank our amazing PTO for a fabulous Back-to-School bash! We were so happy to see our families join us for an art-inspired night of fun activities. Thank you for attending and participating to give back to your child’s school!
This week our students continue their beginning of the year testing and a focus on learning their grade level benchmarks that will set them up for success as readers, mathematicians, scientists, and knowledgeable citizens. At Bexley, we have a weekly homework policy and also request that your child read every night for at least 20-30 minutes. Research shows that your partnership with supporting your child as a reader will increase your child’s success. Reading and literacy are the foundation of learning so the more practice a child has reading, or being read to, the more progress they will make as a reader. Our goal is that all students are reading by the end of 1st grade. When this happens, then our students are ready to access text as readers and they are most successful reading to learn. Both Lexia and Zearn are digital resources that will meet your child where they are in their learning and continue to push them to new levels. We thank you for your support with setting routines at home that allow for your child to meet our homework expectations.
Next week, there is no school in honor of Labor Day, Monday, September 4th.
On Tuesday, September 5th our 2nd and 3rd grade families are invited to Open House from 5:30-6:30. You may go directly to your child’s classroom to see your child’s teachers and some of the things they have been working on since the start of the school year. This is not a night for individual conferences, but it is a great time to set up a time for a conference in the month of October when our teachers have had some more time to know each and every student as a learner, in their classrooms.
On Wednesday, September 6th Kindergarten and 1st grade will host Open House from 5:30-6:30pm and on Thursday, September 7th 4th and 5th grade will host their Open House from 5:30-6:30pm.
Next Wednesday, September 6th is also an early release day for all Pasco County Schools! At Bexley, this means that your child will be dismissed from school at 1:50pm. Please plan ahead to meet your child at the bus stop, hiker/biker, or arrive in our car line early for dismissal to begin at 1:50pm.
