Hello Bexley Bulldog Families,
First, we want to THANK YOU for your cooperation last week as we started the first days of school with our Bulldogs. There were smiles across campus because of your support. THANK YOU for trusting us to walk your child to breakfast, the classroom, and for your patience as we work through our dismissal procedures to make dismissal as smooth as possible.

Just a friendly reminder that our school hours are 9:40am-3:50pm. We will be closing the gates at arrival closer to 9:40am this week, as this is when instruction begins. Please remember that if you are walking or biking to school, you may arrive as early as 9:25am and our gates will be open. We will be also working hard to get car doors open and students on campus beginning at 9:25am. We will continue to monitor our systems this week. Eventually, if you arrive after 9:40am, you will need to park and walk your child through the front office to begin his/her day, and he/she will be marked tardy. Our car line begins at pole 1 and ends at pole 10. There are cones to stop traffic at pole 1, when directed. Please pay close attention to the staff member in the middle at pole 1. He/she will direct you when to stop and when to go through that first pole. Everyone’s safety is our first concern. Thank you for your close attention while driving through our car line.

This school year, both breakfast and lunch will cost money unless you have completed and have been approved for your child to receive a free or reduced breakfast or lunch. Please check our school or district website, under Food and Nutrition, if you have any questions about the application process. In the month of September we will begin welcoming lunch visitors on campus on Mondays or Thursdays. We thank you for allowing us the time to get really great at our routines before welcoming lunchtime visitors on campus.

Our students are dismissed from their classrooms at 3:50pm. If your child is a car rider, please remember that you must have a car tag displayed to pick up your child. Last week we were able to provide additional staff to help write car tags for families that did not have a car tag. This week, if you do not have a car tag, you will need to park and walk to our front office to show your ID and obtain a car tag for pick-up. We thank you for your patience in our car line. Both lines in our carline are efficient and staffed, so please merge into either line when you turn onto campus. The first day, our car line ended at 4:55 and by the third day, we ended at 4:32. We are getting closer to our 4:15 goal each day!

If your child is a bus rider, please continue to expect bus delays. Our transportation staff and call center are working diligently to also make the bus transportation smooth and on time.

Tomorrow night (Monday, 8/15), at 6:00pm, we will host our first PTO meeting. Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is amazing at Bexley and being a part of our PTO is a great way to get involved. Tomorrow night, our PTO will meet in the Rec Center. You may join the PTO at this time, or just come to be a part of our first meeting and see how you feel is the best way to share your talents. Our Bexley welcome decorations, the Cheers and Tears breakfast, and spirit wear sales are all run by our PTO and there is a lot more to come to make Bexley an amazing school family!

Last but not least, please check your child’s Friday folder for our Severe Weather Plan. We know that this time of year lightning may occur around dismissal time. We have a plan, and just need your help. Read through the plan and be familiar with where your child will be for dismissal if we begin implementing our Severe Weather Plan. We will not dismiss any child if lightning is in the area and we will not dismiss any child to an adult without a car tag or ID matching the child’s information in our system. As you can imagine, this will be a longer process for dismissal and we appreciate your patience. In the event that we are going to follow our severe weather plan, we will communicate through email, phone, Dojo, and Facebook. Please be prepared to connect to one of these areas for communication. If we lose power, we will need to revert to one communication plan or another. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. We believe that being prepared is the best plan to ensure the safety for all of our Bulldogs, staff, and families!

We look forward to another great week with our Bulldogs. We are your partners in education, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, our door is always open.

Believe, Engage, Succeed, Teamwork, Integrity, and Equity are our commitments for Every Bulldog, Every Day!
Have a wonderful night.
